While we sadly won't get to see all the decked out city streets on screen, nothing is stopping you from setting up your own twinkly lights at home where you can read the remainder of the series.By Bryce Olin 2 years ago What happened at the end of Dash and Lily?ĭash and Lily is the best new Netflix original. We also probably would've gotten to learn more about the sparks flying between Sofia (Keana Marie) and Boomer (Dante Brown) that developed during the first season's finale. So, if the show did adapt that sequel, it likely would've continued to explore their romance and how mental health effects them individually and together. It follows Dash and friends as they try to cheer her up, so she doesn't miss out on the NYC holiday experience that she loves. In the novel, Lily surprisingly isn't up to celebrating the Christmas season like usual, having coped with her grandfather's health complications earlier in the year. While Dash and Lily are still together, there's a bit more hardship down the line for the two of them. Next would've been The Twelve Days of Dash & Lily, which also takes place around the holidays and a year after the events of the first book. In the instance that their kiss wasn't the end of the series, but actually a lovely beginning, it would've made sense for the series to continue to follow Rachel Cohn and David Levithan's books. (Kissing while New Year's Eve fireworks went off, no less.) It closed out with the most quintessential rom-com finale: the two returning to the place where it all started, NYC literary landmark The Strand, where they were stuck overnight, and made all of our Christmas wishes come true by finally getting together. What will Season 2 of Dash & Lily be about?Īlthough we would ask Santa for a second season of Dash & Lily if we could, fans can at least be grateful that show ended wrapped up perfectly in a bow like a big Christmas present. Given the late cancelation, if we had to guess, Netflix may simply not be pursuing a Season 2 because it's continuing to evaluate what projects to prioritize as the pandemic continues to effect film and TV production. For instance, after Season 1 aired, showrunner Joe Tracz told TVLine he "would love to be able to go back and do the second book," and would even be happy to produce the third. Because the source material is part of a series, there may even have been talks in the early development phase to adapt the rest of the books, too. After all, it was both an acclaimed series that won a handful of Daytime Emmys and extremely popular-dropping at the right time to pair perfectly with a cup of hot cocoa. It's unclear why there won't be more episodes of Dash & Lily.

It unfortunately did make sense when Netflix finally made the announcement, considering it wasn't until nearly a year after the show hit the streaming service that there was any update on its status, and renewals typically come just a few months after something premieres. Deadline announced the disappointing news in October 2021. We're breaking down the future of Dash & Lily below.Īlthough Lily might disagree, we'd say it's okay to turn into a Scrooge: It's officially been confirmed that Dash & Lily isn't going to return for a second season. It was like a holiday miracle when the show arrived in November 2020, and with the show so binge-able (being only eight 25-ish minute episodes) and based on a series of books, it's fair to wonder if another season is a possibility. The show, based on the popular YA book Dash & Lily's Book of Dares from Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, follows two teenagers (played by Austin Abrams and Midori Francis) who've never met but correspond via notebook, sending each other on dares throughout NYC at Christmastime, and it won over many hearts with its merry and bright charm and the way it whimsically captures the spirit of the city. In its 2020 holiday slate, though, Netflix managed to release a surprise holiday-themed hit: Dash & Lily, a teen series that has no business being as good as it is, and perfect sentimental fodder for people who have a soft spot for New York City when snow is falling and lights are twinkling.

By now, with such an oversaturated market full of formulaic plots, it's rare for any new Christmas movie or series to be really good.
